We're looking for extra help this fall for 20-40 hours a week, from September through October, 2018.

We are a small-scale market farm growing certified organic vegetables and raising pastured chickens for eggs. Our goal is to produce high quality produce while being good stewards and good employers. We have great respect for employees and volunteers. You are the backbone of the farm and your work is extremely important. We strive to foster a healthy relationship with you and provide a rewarding experience while we work toward making a living from the farm.

Experience is not required, but helpful. We will gladly train the right people. It is very important to follow directions and use our techniques. You must work carefully and be detail-oriented in order to maintain quality and, at the same time, you must be fast. Not sloppy, rushed, or careless, but quick and efficient. Time is money and money pays you, pays us, and keeps the farm afloat.

Conversation is a benefit of working at the farm, but you need to keep hands moving while you talk and talking must not inhibit your ability to work well and safely.

You must be able to do repetitive physical work outdoors in hot, cold, and rainy weather. Your knees and back must withstand bending, kneeling, stooping, and standing on the ground for hours at a time. We cannot overstate: this work is very physically demanding and requires stamina.

You must communicate and cooperate with us to avoid work being left undone, done poorly, or done for too long.

In the end, we are flexible and understanding. We recognize and appreciate human differences, and will work happily and long beside employees who've had some shortcomings in the areas above but who were trying their best and have a positive attitude.

Fair warning that your work will be checked and re-checked to maintain quality. This has nothing to do with you personally, it is just our standard procedure.

Tardiness will not be tolerated and you are expected to work beyond your scheduled shift to make up for being late. Please give us a notice of two weeks before you need time off or if you need to quit. If an emergency arises or if you become ill, please let us know as soon as possible that you will not be able to work by calling us on the phone. Do not send us an email.

Wage and Hours
Pay is an hourly wage of $8.00 - $13.00 based on experience. Employees are given access to free extra produce. Bonuses will be given if and when expectations are met and exceeded. You will be paid bi-weekly and only hours that are recorded on the timesheet will be paid. After one month of employment, there will be a meeting to talk about what is working well and what is not working well for you and for us. We may have similar meetings in the future if needed.

Work hours will be approximately 20-40 hrs/week from until October 31st, 2017. Weekly schedule is typically, Monday through Friday, starting between 7am based on the time of year.

If working a full day, expect an approximately 1 hour unpaid lunch break, typically from 12-1pm.   

Vegetable related job duties include, but are not limited to: harvesting, washing, sorting, and packaging produce for restaurant and farmer’s markets.  Also, seeding, watering, fertilizing, planting, and weeding plants. Other tasks include laying mulch, working with irrigation setup, staking and pruning tomatoes, laying row cover, and light duty construction. Small tools and machinery including knives, hoes, mower, and tiller will be used.

Egg processing job duties include, but are not limited to: collecting, washing, and packaging eggs.

It is important to be able to work as a team member, as well as independently when needed.

The ability to lift and carry items as heavy as 50 pounds is preferred.

It is very important that all safety rules to be followed at all times. This includes wearing protective equipment when necessary. No open toed footwear is allowed. Drug and alcohol use is not allowed. Employees will need to confirm that they do not use illegal drugs for our federal grant compliance.

Other Considerations:
You are responsible to bring any clothes you need to dress for the weather, i.e. bring any hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, raincoats, change of clothes, etc. Bring a water bottle and food. We encourage employees to take several breaks for water and during breaks you are welcome to eat snacks. Everyone has a 10am snack break. We typically eat lunch together as a team, but you can choose to stay or to leave for lunch. Coffee provided.

Grounds for Termination
We reserves the right to terminate employees who repeatedly ignore expectations and safety measures and/or consistently do not properly execute duties. Without exceptions, you must have a good attitude. We have no tolerance for people who don't respect their work and their co-workers. If you're lazy or rude, then you won't work here.

Your employment with us is a voluntary one and is subject to termination by you or us at will, with or without cause, at any time. Nothing in these policies shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way the employment-at-will status.

Weekly Schedule (approx):
Monday - Thursday: Harvest 7am-12pm, Field work or egg processing 1pm-4pm
Friday: Pack for Farmers Market 7am-12pm, Field work or egg processing 1pm-4pm
